Wedding Wednesday - Planning A Memorable Bridal Shower

Planning a bridal shower can be an exciting experience, but it also comes with its challenges. Whether you're the maid of honor, a bridesmaid, or a close friend of the bride, this guide will help you plan a bridal shower full of memories that the bride will cherish forever.

Ideally, the bridal shower should be held 1-3 months before the wedding. The first step in planning your event is coordinating with the bride and other hosts to find a date that works for everyone. Once a date has been selected, determine who will contribute to the shower and set a realistic budget. Take into consideration what the bridal party expenses will be and if travel is required, as this will influence your decisions on venue, food, guest list size, and entertainment.

Theme

Next, choose a theme that reflects the bride’s unique personality and interests. Visit Pinterest to find endless ideas.

Popular themes include:

Love In Bloom

Tea Party

She Found Her Main Squeeze

Spa Day

Travel Theme

Vino Before Vows

Venue

Now that you’ve selected the perfect theme, work with the bride to make sure all the important people in her life are included. Keep it intimate with close friends and family. You’ll also need to decide whether to host the shower at someone’s home or a local venue. Consider the number of guests, the chosen theme and your budget. Upon selection of the venue, you will need to select invitations. You can go for sending traditional paper invites by mail or digital invites for a modern touch. Plan to send the bridal shower invitations out before the wedding invitations. Keep in mind that wedding invitations are typically sent out 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date.

Decor and Menu

The decor should align with the theme and venue. Think about flowers, signs, table settings, and other details that will make the day special. The menu will depend on the time of day and theme. The menu can include light bites, a 4 course meal, or just desserts. Don’t forget the beverages—consider a signature cocktail or mocktail.

Entertainment

Keep your guests entertained with a mix of fun and meaningful activities. Some ideas include  bridal bingo, advice for the bride, floral bouquet making or wine tasting. Be sure to capture all of the fun and special moments by hiring a photographer or book a photo booth with theme related props.

Guests will likely bring gifts for the bride. Work with the bride to create a gift registry to give them some guidance and plan a specific time during the shower for the bride to open her gifts. Make sure to have someone taking notes of who gave what for thank-you cards after the shower.

A well-planned bridal shower is a wonderful way to celebrate the bride-to-be and create lasting memories. With careful planning and a personal touch, you can host a shower that will be remembered for years to come by the bride and her guests.
